Why You Should Consider Adult Invisalign in Edison, NJ

Woman SmilingInvisalign is a popular alternative to traditional metal braces. The system uses a series of removable clear plastic aligners or trays to straighten teeth over time, creating a beautiful, even bite. The aligners snap comfortably over your teeth and are virtually invisible.

Orthodontic treatment for adults is an excellent way to improve your smile and bite. There is no age limit to improving one’s appearance and overall health. Our orthodontists have ample experience providing Invisalign treatment plans for adults of all ages.

The primary factor as to whether Invisalign will work for you is your oral health. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, orthodontic treatment can shift your permanent teeth into a better position regardless of your age. The aligners can correct several orthodontic problems, like gaps, overbites, underbites, crooked teeth, and overcrowding.

Invisalign For Adults in Edison, Millburn, & Union

The biggest advantage of Invisalign for adults is its visual appeal. The clear trays are more discreet than traditional metal braces, which have brackets and wires. If you prefer the way you look without metal braces or choose to undergo an orthodontic treatment more discreetly, Invisalign is a good option.

Invisalign aligners do not permanently remain on teeth. They are removable, making it easy to practice good oral hygiene. Patients with these straighteners can brush and floss their teeth as they would before receiving treatment, which helps your teeth and gums remain healthy as the shifting occurs.

Since Invisalign is removable, you can take them out temporarily for special events and eating. Though some orthodontic treatments come with dietary restrictions to protect the orthodontic appliance, you can continue eating the foods you enjoy without damaging your aligners. Simply remove the trays before eating and you’ll be good to go.

Comfort is another benefit of Invisalign. The trays are a thin, flexible polyurethane plastic that sits comfortably on the surface of your upper or lower teeth. The material will not irritate your mouth’s soft tissues or cause orthodontic pain.

Switching From Braces to Invisalign in Edison, Millburn, & Union

Despite the benefits of Invisalign for adults, some patients need the movements that only traditional braces can provide. Everyone is not a good candidate for Invisalign. However, during your free consultation with Dr. Chung or Dr. Epshteyn, they will examine your mouth to determine which treatment is most suitable for your desired orthodontic appearance.

Depending on your oral condition and lifestyle, switching from braces to Invisalign may be possible. You will need to discuss any change in your orthodontic treatment with one of our orthodontists.

Invisalign for Adults Treatment Plan

We will use specialized computer software and imaging technology to design a plan to shift your teeth from their current possible into a better alignment.

The images and information from the software will go to the Invisalign lab, where technicians will custom-create a series of aligner trays. You will wear each set of trays for two weeks for a minimum of 20 hours a day before moving on to the next batch. Each aligner will gradually move your teeth.

How Long the Treatment Will Last

The length of your Invisalign treatment will depend on how much movement your teeth require. Generally, treatment for adults will last from 9 to 15 months. Patients experience orthodontic growth at varying rates, so the estimated completion time can differ from your actual treatment time.
